Michael J. Hoisington
Michael Hoisington has experience and expertise in the areas of trademark and copyright prosecution and protection, e-commerce and entertainment law. He is experienced in effective procedures for protecting trademarks and copyrights, including prosecution of federal trademark and copyright applications, and advises clients in those areas. Mr. Hoisington works closely with musicians and entertainment industry professionals, advising them regarding intellectual property and related legal issues.
Mr. Hoisington also handles intellectual property litigation, and has assisted in a number of patent, trademark and copyright litigation matters. He has also prosecuted and defended domain disputes using the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (“UDRP”). He has significant experience litigating oppositions and cancellations at the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (“TTAB”).
Mr. Hoisington is admitted to practice before all state courts and all federal district courts in California, the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, The United States Court of Federal Claims, and the United States Court of International Trade.
Mr. Hoisington has had articles relating to intellectual property published in the
San Diego Business Journal and the
San Diego Daily Transcript, and has been quoted in an entertainment law article published by the American Bar Association. He has spoken on intellectual property and entertainment law issues at California Western School of Law, Thomas Jefferson School of Law, San Diego County Bar functions, and firm functions. He has been a leader in the San Diego County Bar Association’s Entertainment and Sports Law Section for the past 5 years, and has served as the section chair and co-chair.
Mr. Hoisington served honorably in the United States Air Force. He has an extensive technical background in electronics, graduating from Air Force electronics training school in the top 10% of his class. He worked as an electronics technician in the aviation industry, the music industry, and television broadcast industry. He is intimately involved with the music and entertainment industries, and has worked as a musician with musical groups that have toured the United States and Canada. He currently plays lead and rhythm guitar in a local San Diego rock band.
