John L. Morrell

John Morrell is the firm's Chairman and Managing Partner. He has held this position since 1997.

In addition to handling firm management, John Morrell has a full time Commercial and Bankruptcy Law practice. John Morrell's practice is almost equally balanced between creditor and debtor representation in insolvency matters. He has handled numerous complex Chapter 11 reorganization cases as Debtor in Possession Counsel and as Official Creditors' Committee Counsel. John Morrell also has extensive experience in representing secured creditors in complex cases. His experience draws upon expertise in commercial transactions, including real estate, sales of goods, securities, secured personal and real property transactions, as well as other issues directly relevant to complex business transactions and operations.

John Morrell started the firm's Chapter 11 practice in 1985 after completing his federal judicial clerkship with the Honorable Ralph G. Pagter, United States Bankruptcy Judge, US Bankruptcy Court, Central District of California (1984-1985). He has been a partner with the firm since 1991.

Morrell served as President of the San Diego Bankruptcy Forum in 1997 and was on its Board of Directors from 1996 through 1998. He also served as Vice President of the San Diego County Bar Association in 2003 and served on its Board of Directors from 2001 through 2003. Morrell has been a member of the Downtown San Diego Rotary Club since 1991. He is also a current member of the San Diego County Taxpayers Association and the San Diego County Bar Foundation. He is a third generation San Diegan.
