Laura L. Buckley
Laura Buckley practices in all areas of Federal and State taxation, specializing in tax controversy. She represents individuals and business entities before the Internal Revenue Service and the state taxing agencies, in the United States Tax Court and other federal and state courts. Ms. Buckley also advises and represents creditors and debtors in business disputes and insolvency matters, including business reorganizations.
Before joining Higgs Fletcher & Mack, Ms. Buckley was an IRS Chief Counsel attorney and a Special Assistant United States Attorney. In 2007, Ms. Buckley was selected as National Chair for all IRS Counsel’s young attorneys.
Her work includes:
- Tax Litigation (including deficiency, family limited partnerships, innocent spouse, collection due process, and fraud cases)
- Collection Matters (including liens, levies, offers in compromise, installment agreements, estate and gift, and collection judgments)
- Bankruptcy Litigation
- Complex Corporate Tax Shelter work
Originally from San Diego, Ms. Buckley graduated from Gordon College, in Wenham, Massachusetts. Prior to attending law school, she spent two years at Oxford University in Oxford, England, and three years teaching reading at local low-income schools.
She received her Juris Doctor degree from Southwestern University School of Law, where she graduated magna cum laude and was a member of Law Review. In addition to receiving the Dean’s Scholar Award and the Dean’s Merit Scholarship, Ms. Buckley was named Third Place Oralist in the Intramural Moot Court Competition.
Ms. Buckley also served as a full-time judicial extern to the Honorable Arthur L. Alarcon on the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
