Susan Moriarty Hack was admitted to the California State Bar and joined Higgs Fletcher & Mack in 1989. Ms.Hack became a partner in 1996. In 2001, Ms. Hack became a part of the Firm’s management when she was appointed as an Executive Partner. Ms. Hack heads the Firm’s Diversity Committee and the education side of the Firm’s Professional Development Committee. In 2002, Ms. Hack was a recipient of the YWCA’s Tribute to Women & Industry (TWIN) Award. Since 2007, Ms. Hack has been named each year as a Business Litigation “Super Lawyer” from Southern California Super Lawyers (San Diego).  Ms. Hack is a 2011 recipient of the San Diego County Bar Association’s annual Service Awards.  Ms. Hack received the award for Service to Legal Education.  The annual Service Awards are given during National Law Week.  In 2013, Ms. Hack was named a Top Attorney in the area of Transportation by San Diego Magazine.

Ms. Hack practices general tort and business litigation, handling primarily business disputes, personal injury, premises liability, professional medical and business negligence, and product liability matters. She has received the highest rating available (A-V) from Martindale-Hubbell for ethics and legal ability.

Ms. Hack has served as a judge on moot court and mock trial competitions for the University of San Diego School of Law, and has been an instructor for the law school in a course entitled “The Practicum” for several years. Ms. Hack has also been an instructor for CEB’s annual courses “Recent Developments in Tort Litigation” and “Use and Abuse of Interrogatories.”  She also serves as an arbitrator for the San Diego County Superior Court.

Ms. Hack is currently on the Board of Directors and a past President of the San Diego Inn of Court. This organization presents a trial skills and an evidence workshop each year and provides a unique opportunity for student lawyers to practice what they learn by demonstrations given at courtroom sessions presided over by distinguished judges and experienced attorneys. It is theoretical, practical, and hands-on in approach.  She is also on the Board of Directors of the American Inns of Court (Enright Inn) and became the Enright Inn’s President in June, 2012.  One purpose of the American Inns of Court is to create an atmosphere of camaraderie among lawyers and judges, and to provide attorneys with the opportunity to learn from other attorneys and judges at the monthly meetings. A strong emphasis is placed on professionalism, ethics, and civility.

Ms. Hack serves as a mentor to new lawyers and law students for Lawyers Club. This organization seeks to advance the status of women in the law and in society and is comprised of female and male attorneys, judges, law students, and others in the San Diego community who share these interests and goals. Ms. Hack also serves as a mentor to lawyers who are members of the New Lawyer Division of the San Diego County Bar Association.

In addition to Ms. Hack’s activities in the legal community, she also contributes to the community at large.  She sits on the board of FAME, which is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the public education/schools in her family’s residential community in many areas, including technology.  Ms. Hack has also served on the “Bike-A-Thon” committee for the Magdalena Ecke YMCA.  This is an annual 12 hour event and is part of the Magdalena Ecke Y’s Annual Giving Campaign, which raises money for, among many other things, underprivileged children attending summer camp.

Ms. Hack brings considerable enthusiasm to the practice of law. She is dedicated to meeting the needs of her clients, as well as raising the standard of practice within the Firm and in the San Diego legal community.
