HOW ADVANCES IN TECHNOLOGY ARE AFFECTING THE RIGHTS OF AUTHORS AND THEIR PUBLISHERS

CALIFORNIA ADOPTS NEW SEXUAL HARASSMENT TRAINING REQUIREMENTS FOR LARGE EMPLOYERS

SHAKA JOHNSON: PERSONALLY AND PROFESSIONALLY

Dear Clients and Friends,

As the end of the year rapidly approaches we would like to thank you again for your continued business and friendship. It is these relationships that help foster Higgs, Fletcher & Mack's tradition of being San Diego's law firm.

In this edition you will find an article by Charles Reidelbach, partner and Chair of the Firm's Intellectual Property Group, titled, "How Advances in Technology Are Affecting the Rights of Authors and Their Publishers." This article provides an insight into some precautionary steps when working with electronic rights and contractual implications.

Next, we recommend that you read "California Adopts New Sexual Harassment Training Requirements for Large Employers", an article written by James Peterson and Shaka Johnson. This article explains and identifies new required workplace training and the consequences for non-compliance. Peterson, a business litigation attorney, is an expert on employment law related matters and currently sits as the Committee Chair of the Labor and Employment Group for the American Law Firm Association International.

Please review the background piece on one of our younger attorneys, Shaka Johnson, who co-authored the above referenced article with James Peterson. Shaka joined the Firm in 2003 while a USD law student as part of our clerkship program. Going into his second full year as an attorney, Shaka has proven his exceptional value to his clients and to the Firm.

We want to thank you once again for your continuing commitment to Higgs, Fletcher & Mack. If you should have any questions or suggestions on how Higgs, Fletcher & Mack can meet your needs, please contact me through the Firm's website, www.higgslaw.com, or by phone at (619) 236-1551.

Very Truly Yours,
John L. Morrell
