Fall 2005 E-Newsletter
Dear Clients and Friends,
It is with great sadness that I must tell you that the firm's sole remaining founding partner, Ferdinand T. Fletcher passed away on September 19, 2005. Ferd Fletcher and Dewitt "Dutch" Higgs established our firm in 1939 after completing a game of golf together on a fine San Diego day. Ferd and Dutch grew our firm into what it is today, one of the most well respected and prestigious organizations in our community. Ferd devoted his life and fortune to the San Diego Community through civic involvement. He was president of the San Diego County Bar Association, president of the San Diego Rotary Club, president of the San Diego and national societies for Crippled Children and Adults, and president of the California Easter Seal Society Although Ferd officially retired as an active partner in the firm in 1987, he continued to practice law and mentor younger lawyers until his health started to fail three years ago. The indelible imprint of unquestioned ethics and professionalism left by our founding father will never fade.
In this edition of our newsletter we share some of our firm’s exciting happenings, as well as an article by Jon Grissom on nonprofit organizations and their role in lobbying and political activities. Jon is a relatively new addition to our firm. His practice specialty is corporate and business law with a focus on non profit corporations and entities.
As always, we want to thank you for allowing us to serve your personal and business legal needs. If you have any questions regarding the matters set forth in the newsletter or any other issues, please feel free to drop me a line. My direct dial number is (619) 595-4284. I can also be reached through my e-mail address at morrell@higgslaw.com.
Very Truly Yours,

John L. Morrell, Chairman
